Welcome to the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering (CECE) at the University of Central Florida. Join with our faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends as you explore the exciting research, academic, outreach and partnership opportunities with our department. There has never been a more exciting time to be a civilization builder – our disciplines stand at the nexus of applied science, mathematics, technology, policy, economics and social science. Faculty, students and alumni work collaboratively on many aspects of challenges facing society, such as the renewal of urban infrastructure, climate change and sea-level rise, access to clean water, resilience under natural and man-made hazards, and smart monitoring and management of tomorrow’s mega-city.
The department is home to a world-class faculty, exceptional staff, teaching and research laboratories, several institutes and a multitude of degree and certificate options. More than 1,100 undergraduate and 200 graduate students call CECE home. Faculty produce $6 million in research expenditures annually on both basic and applied research in process engineering, mechanics and dynamics, coastal engineering, photogrammetry and remote sensing, digital twins, cyber-physical systems, network theory, immersive environments and health monitoring, to name a few. Faculty include members of the National Academy of Engineering, and Fellows of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers and the American Institute for Conservation.
We have bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in both civil and environmental engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering. Beyond popular master’s degree specializations in structural and geotechnical engineering, water resources engineering, transportation systems and environmental systems, CECE is now home to unique master’s degrees in smart cities as well as travel technologies and analytics. All of our master’s degrees are available either in-person or through UCF Online, bringing advanced coursework within everyone’s reach. Our students participate in numerous student organizations on campus, and chapter members compete at regional and national competitions.
I invite you to learn more about our department’s academic and research excellence endeavors and how you can become a part of them: Develop collaborations with our faculty, support our students, become a student and find a community in CECE.
Go Knights!
